CARE Peru becomes Affiliate Member of CARE confederation – so what does that mean exactly?

Earlier this week, CARE International announced that CARE Peru had become an Affiliate Member of the CARE confederation. Sound exciting? You’re right – it is! But what does that mean exactly?

In becoming an affiliate member, CARE Peru is now its own autonomous national member organization (similar to CARE Canada), that is able to support its own efforts, and contribute to discussions with CARE International’s global team. In essence, CARE Peru has graduated from being a CARE country office managed and funded by CARE International’s twelve national members*, and is now on its final step toward gaining a full CARE International membership.**

CARE Peru has now established its own local governance structure and will have the ability to implement its own programs, and manage all activities related to advocacy, fundraising and communications in the country of Peru, and other countries they’re interested in supporting.

As an affiliate member, CARE Peru will also gain a louder voice in contributing to CARE International’s global strategy, adding a more diverse and unified voice for global advocacy.

As a member of the CARE confederation, CARE Canada is very excited to welcome CARE Peru as an affiliate member. Read the official press release from CARE International here. To learn more about the CARE confederation and its members visit www.care-international.org.

* Since 1970, CARE Peru has been a country office supported and managed by CARE USA, as well as the recipient of development funding from CARE International’s 12 national member.
**Affiliate membership is distinguished from full membership through a conditioning of member rights and responsibilities and is the last step taken toward a full CARE International membership.
